For all industries, particularly the Automotive industry, Industrial Marking is a mandatory process for manufacturers and retailers to ensure traceability, control and quality of their products. For this reason, all international and local regulations require that every single Automotive component must be marked in order to track it from production to its final destination, for assurance, safety and quality. A brake disc, for example, is one of the most important components of an automobile, for which quality and safety must be guaranteed.
According toUnited Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UN/ECE) Regulation No. 90, each brake disc/drum approved in accordance with this regulation must be indelibly marked with at least the following information:
6.2.2.1. manufacturer's name or trademark;
6.2.2.2. approval number;
6.2.2.3. serial number;
6.2.2.4. indications for tractability of the product (e.g. date of manufacture, location, etc. ...);
6.2.2.5. minimum brake disc thickness or the maximum drum size in the inner diameter of the disc
This is a current law in the EU, but it is also part of the United Nations World Forum for Harmonization of Vehicle Regulations (WP 29). The latter provides a unique framework for globally harmonized vehicle regulations. The benefits of such regulations are tangible in road safety, environmental protection and trade.
