Micro marking: how small can it be?

Different markings for different needs, and each application needs markings of specific sizes. But how small can a marking be?

For example on diamonds the marking can be about 100 microns high. This means that then special equipment is needed to go in and read and verify the marking. However, this is not only the case in the world of diamonds. Technical instruments, tools, microchips, PC boards, tubes, joints, and many other components must bear very very small codes, logos, or information.

Many customers ask us for markings that must be virtually invisible so as not to:

  1. disturb the overall view of the object
  2. be easily visible for anti-counterfeiting reasons
  3. be too large for the product itself, for example, when dealing with very small objects
